Happy 2012 3G Management
The New Year is starting off great with auditions and 2012 bookings; and this is only just the beginning of the month. Additionally, there are some exciting new works in the process all pointing to a strong year for 3G Mangement. This New Year is going to be very exciting and fulfilling for all of us at 3G Management.
Last year, in addition to all the submitting and calling CDs, I started reading scripts and working with several different producers to determine which scripts we can get off the ground and green lighted. My first thought whenever I read a good script: I need to get this into the right hands and attach my talent to it. The role may not always be the lead but certainly a strong supporting role.
Breakdowns and other sites are good but directly attaching my talent to a project is something entirely else, and that is our goal here at 3G Management for this 2012. I’m always exploring new ways to push my talent and elevate all of us in our industry. We cannot stay in one spot hoping things will move, no. We must push forward and advance in all aspects available.
For my talent, I say stay in class. Stay sharp and be ready. Improv classes are ideal to keep you witty and in the moment. Be sure your resume and online outlets are all up to date including IMBD. Visit yourself on IMDB today to be certain you have a picture on your profile and that it is up to date. CD’s do look at IMDB.
For younger actors and actresses who are new: Don’t lie on your resume, you will get caught. I’ve recently spoke to some just-starting actors who had all these great credits on their resume which were absent from IMDB. Meaning, they worked as extras yet embellished the role on their resume. Don’t do this. In fact, leave extra work off your resume. Remain truthful. Good headshots and being well trained will get you auditions. You may not get the guest role but you can get called in for the co-star which is where everyone starts. Nothing is going to come easy in this business, you need to work for it. Good classes and accurate headshots with a good range is where it starts. Don’t make your headshots beautiful, keep them real and ensure they pop by taking care in your outfit.
Now some pet peeves. When I call: Please call me back, ASAP. I don’t like to keep casting waiting. Once casting calls or sends a c-mail I need to get back to them asap. Remember, we are a team, and that includes casting. Casting is busy trying to set up their times and they don’t enjoy having to wait on us. If you are serious about succeeding in this business you must call back right away, or in the least send a text confirming the time left on voicemail. If this is a hobby to you: Don’t waste your time or mine. Sounds harsh but I respect the CD and the work they need to do. We are a team and need to be mindful of each other.
The same goes for agents. We should all be on the same page with agents and managers always being in the loop. That goes for the commercial agent as well. If you know you have an audition coming up, let your commercial agent know right away; that way if something comes up the agent can immediately work around the schedule. The manager, agent, and casting director all work together with the talent. It is imperative that the lines of communication are always open and transparent to build trust and keep things moving at a steady pace.
Lastly, for my talent, do not call me after I have confirmed to tell me you need to change the time. I will not do that anymore. After you confirm with me the time for your audition: That is it. It is your responsibility to contact your commercial agent to let them know of this audition to avoid any overlaps. Keep everyone working for you in the loop. It makes life easier for everyone.
Additionally, make sure you always book out as soon as you know. I don’t want to call you with an audition to hear “I’m in Florida,” or Hawaii or wherever, “sorry!” Else you’ll be looking for a new manager. It doesn’t take much effort to let me know you’ll be out of town for a while. A phone call isn’t even necessary; just send a text or an email.
This is a new year. A new year that has started off awesomely already. 3G Management has much in the works for this year such as getting our scripts green-lighted and making sure our relationships with casting directors are solid and that they can depend on us to deliver. As you all know I love calling and pitching, which I do all the time, but I need you to do your part as well.
Together we will ensure 2012 to be a strong, exciting year of fulfillment for all of us at 3G Management.

Communication
Communication: There should always be good communication between actors and managers. Most managers usually ‘cc’ Agents to let them know when there is an audition though there are times when they don't. It’s something that should not happen but does. As a manager I depend on my clients to let me know when they have an audition. There is nothing more frustrating than having a time conflict because there was no communication on the actor’s part; if you know your agent isn't going to cc the manager: Let your manager know.
For every audition you go out on if you don't let your manager know and your manager has submitted you for a role that you get called in for and must then call the CD to either change times or say you cannot make it: That’s frustrating for the CD.
CD's get frustrated because it is a waste of their time and messes with their schedules. If there is no communication there is no relationship, without a relationship it will not work. Pick up the phone and call or text or even email. If the manager does not get back to you then it falls on the management. The most important thing a manager can do is to make sure things go smoothly for his or her actors/actresses.
Likewise, the manager should also get in contact with agents, commercially and theatrically, to say hello and let them know when their talent has an audition. Makes life easier. Remember, we are supposed to be a team and without communication there is no team.
I love to submit and pitch my talent but it is also my job to make sure things go smoothly for my actors/actresses. Even though managers act as agents we are not agents; we want to support the agents by doing our job, but not over stepping the agent, and helping the talent by listening to them and resolving issues such as career blocks.
The talents job is to listen to the manager and take the advice. Staying crazy busy is good, if I am not busy I am not doing something right. :)
So remember the topic: Communication, not frustration.
